What the heck does it matter what fire department the person is from. Eating smoke is not nice work, its not tough and its not brave. its nuts. Smoke is a by product of combustion./ It contains cancer causing products. SCBA is there to be used to provide fresh bretahing air. It also prevents cancer causing products from entering the lungs. If heros don't want to use the PPE that is provided by their employer cause its not heroic, then so be it. But lets see how brave they all are, later in life while they are sitting in hospital having undegone chemotherapy or having just had part of a lung removed. Do they not think that management will not use such videos to prove that the ilness / injury does not warrant an insurance payout. Who looks after your family then. Its fun till someone dies of cancer. get with it guys.

Yep an incredible performance. Got within a 100 yards of a house fire, declared a false alarm and oven an hour later went and put out a fire in two houses. Incredible mistake or an incredible co incidence.

One thing to be aware of when going into to do overhaul after an exterior attack is often the ceiling will still be there, but can come down all at once because it is loaded with water. I think the command made a good decision to go into defensive mode. There really wasnt that much more damage that I could see from the time they pulled out to do an exterior attack to when they had it knocked down. Great Video

7/19/10 Garden City Park, NY. Upon their arrival, there was fire showing through the roof and out the garage area with 2 cars fully involved in the driveway, close to the garage as well. 2 lines were initially stretched in the front door for an interior attack, however the attack went exterior rather quickly due to weakening of the roof, and not too long after going exterior the roof began to give out.

They had a lot of fire to play with. This burn looked better organized and safer than most of the videos of training burns that come from the US. Everyone had proper gear on and they had a backup line in place.

Once again, exterior lines doing NOTHING! Let me say this again: if you are going to stand outside and spray water at least make sure that water hits some fire! If in fact there was a collapse, exterior attack all the way. If not, go in, pull cieling, put out fire and go home. It is not a hard concept to grasp.

Remarkable that in this situation several folks have commented on the use of external hand lines and even provided what appears to be good suggestions for it's increased effectiveness. Yet when anonymous suggested hand lines as an alternative to the Fredricton fire, he was shouted down with the suggestion that hand lines would push the fire back into the house. External attacks work every day, they are safer and in most circumstances provide quick knockdown. Think about it before putting yourself in unnecessary danger.

I agree with both comments. Firefighters have to stop droppin their packs in the street and letting the alarms just wail and wail away.
Also, place line where they will put out fire. This one they could have had more than one line thru the front door. Alot of guys came out when the evacuated and I only saw one line going in.
But since they chose an exterior attack, utilize your aerials better, why squirt water from 100 ft away when your tower ladder can get closer and actually put some fire out
