It isn't often I come across a video I have not seen. Watch this old footage of firefighters going to work on what appears to be commercial on the first floor with apartments above. It appears mid way through the video there is an explosion of some sort. Not sure if this is an official backdraft like the video title says, but it is definitly a violent explosion.

How sad: Numerous civilians are seen running to assist the downed firefighters and the firefighters are seen 'barnyard strolling' at a nice, slow, leisurely pace. Hmmm.
Looks like backdraft explosion. Some one need to put a Halligan through that front window on arrival to ventilate. No one on the roof, either, to get it open.
actually horizontal venitilation at a commercial building fire will actually cause a backdraft.
vertical ventiliation via the roof will highly reduce the chance of backdraft.
