NY Fire News - Hudson River Psychiatric Center Fire



On 05/31/07 at 1936 Hrs the Fairview Fire District was dispatched for a structure fire at the former Hudson River Psychiatric Center which had been vacant for over 6 years.Upon arrival much of the Main Bldgs. were well involved.These buildings dated back to late 1800's and were awaiting renovation by a private business.It should be noted that a severe thunderstorm passed through the area shortly before the fire was discovered. There were no active hydrants on the property which led to long lays to the nearest working hydrants , one lay was over 5000 FT.In all 15 Engines , 2 Ladders , 4 Tower Ladders and various support apparatus worked the scene until dawn to bring this under control. The last engine left the scene on Sat. afternoon.
